CEDAW’s Task Force for city of San Jose

In July 2016 several Community organizations in Santa Clara County, California led by the non-profit organization “Voices of Women for Change” came together to promote and advocate the implementation of CEDAW’s principles in the city of San Jose.

City of San Jose is the largest and the most resourceful city in Santa Clara County and should take a leadership role in reinforcing and implementing CEDAW’s principles and using gender lens in order to make policy decisions.

As the CEDAW’s Task Force we have mobilized many stakeholders including elected officials, community leaders, women’s rights organizations, human rights organizations, and civil rights organizations.

Our main goal is to implement the CEDAW principles in the City of San Jose by addressing discrimination against women and girls in areas including economic development, violence against women and girls, human trafficking, conditions of incarcerated and homeless women, equal pay, and equal access to health and education and employment.

The list of the growing number of organizations who support the passing of a CEDAW ordinance in the city of San Jose and Santa Clara County can be found here.
