CEDAW Task Force Meets with Vice Mayor M. Carrasco

Our report card for Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women(CEDAW): CEDAW is Women’s Bill of Rights and a significant yardstick for advancement of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. In July 2016 a CEDAW Task Force led by VOW for Change was developed to advocate for the implementation of CEDAW’s principles in the City of San Jose. 16+ Women’s and Human Rights organizations came together and have worked hard and today we had a very promising and positive meeting with Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco. She made a commitment to lead the efforts to pass a CEDAW Ordinance for the City of San Jose. She will work closely with other City officials in collaboration with our Task Force to bring forth this Ordinance. Passage of this Ordinance will have a real and tangible impact on women’s lives in the form of Policies, Laws and protections. On behalf of the Task Force I want to thank Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco for her leadership and for her commitment to Gender Equality.
